AI SWMS generators for Australian tradies compared

Last checked: 20 October 2026

AI SWMS generators turn a short job description into a draft Safe Work Method Statement in minutes. They differ mostly in how you pay (per document, credits or a flat subscription), what you get out (PDF or Word), and how your crew signs on. Here's how the main Australian options compare, from each vendor's own website as at October 2026.

Disclosure: SWMS by Policy System publishes this page and is one of the generators compared. We've stuck to what each vendor publishes. Spot something out of date? Email support@policysystem.com.au.

Prices as published on each vendor's website on 20 October 2026, in Australian dollars unless stated (AI4HSE doesn't state a currency). OneClickSWMS counts a high-risk (complex) SWMS as 2.

What does a year of SWMS cost?

Two examples using the published prices (GST treatment differs between vendors):

  • About 1 SWMS a month (12 a year): SWMS by Policy System $200 on the yearly plan, or $20 for any month you need it; OneClickSWMS A$129 on its yearly plan; SWMS Generator about A$157 (10 credits for A$99 plus 2 at A$29).
  • About 2 a month (24 a year): SWMS by Policy System $200 yearly; OneClickSWMS A$129 yearly; SWMS Generator A$199 for 50 credits.

If you only ever need one SWMS, a single-document option (SWMS Generator A$29, OneClickSWMS A$39) or Blue Safe's free one may be cheaper. If you write JSAs as well as SWMS, or make lots of versions for different sites, a flat unlimited plan is simpler.

SWMS by Policy System (this site)

Describe the job in plain English and pick your state. The AI drafts the high-risk construction work categories, job steps, hazards, hierarchy-of-control measures, 5×5 risk ratings before and after controls, PPE, plant and state legislation references in about three minutes. Edit anything, save your business profile once, and download a branded PDF with a sign-on register. Drafting is free; $20 a month (or $200 a year) unlocks unlimited SWMS, JSA and JSEA PDFs. Best for sole traders and small crews who write SWMS regularly. If you need QR crew sign-on or a Word file, OneClickSWMS, SWMS Generator, Blue Safe or AI4HSE offer those.

OneClickSWMS

Drafts and edits are free and you pay when you finalise: A$39 for one SWMS, packs of 3 or 10, A$60 a month for 10, or A$129 a year for 120. A high-risk (complex) SWMS uses two. Crew sign on by QR code or link without an app, and the PDF includes a sign-on register.

SWMS Generator

Credit-based: A$29 for one document, A$99 for 10 or A$199 for 50, and credits don't expire. One credit per generated SWMS or WHS document (it also does policies and WHS manuals). Pro and Enterprise add QR code worker signing and site inductions.

Blue Safe

Blue Safe's free SWMS creator makes one AI SWMS per email address, delivered as editable Word and PDF files in about two minutes, with no card. Paid template packages and WHS plans are available for more documents.

AI4HSE

An AI safety toolkit that can build a SWMS from uploaded site photos, for any Australian state (it also does US and UK formats). The free plan allows two generations a day; downloading or exporting results is listed as a Premium feature ($100 a year).

SWMS Builder

In early access. Your first SWMS is free with no card; it cites each control to the law (NSW first) and asks a competent person to approve before publishing. Paid plan prices weren't published on its site when we checked.

Also worth knowing

Bigger platforms are adding AI too: Sitemate's Storm AI can fill Dashpivot forms, and BuildPass includes an AI toolkit. HazardCo says its templates and advice are written by people, not generated by AI. See SWMS software compared.

How to check an AI-drafted SWMS

  1. Check the high-risk construction work categories ticked are right for the job (HRCW checklist).
  2. Walk through each step against the actual site: access, edges, services, plant, weather, neighbours.
  3. Make sure controls start at the top of the hierarchy, not just PPE.
  4. Confirm your state's rules (SWMS requirements by state).
  5. Talk it through with the crew and get them signed on before work starts.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI SWMS generator?

A tool that drafts a Safe Work Method Statement from a short description of the job, usually including high-risk work categories, job steps, hazards, controls, risk ratings and PPE. You review and edit the draft before using it.

Are AI-generated SWMS legal in Australia?

A SWMS can be prepared any way you like, as long as it meets the WHS Regulations (regulation 299) and is site-specific. An AI draft is a starting point. The business doing the work is responsible for checking it and consulting workers.

What is the cheapest AI SWMS generator?

As of October 2026, for a single document Blue Safe offers one free AI SWMS per email, SWMS Generator charges A$29 and OneClickSWMS A$39. For regular use, OneClickSWMS's yearly plan is A$129 for up to 120 SWMS and SWMS by Policy System is $20 a month or $200 a year for unlimited documents, including JSAs.

Can I get a free AI SWMS?

Some tools let you draft free. With SWMS by Policy System, drafting is free and the PDF download is $20 a month. OneClickSWMS lets you draft free and pay when you finalise. Blue Safe gives one free SWMS per email address.

Which AI SWMS generator suits a sole trader?

If you write SWMS or JSAs most weeks, a flat plan such as SWMS by Policy System's $20 a month keeps it simple. If you only need a few a year, per-document options from OneClickSWMS or SWMS Generator may cost less.

Check the official guidance

A SWMS sets out the high-risk construction activities, their hazards and the controls to use. Prepare it before the work starts, adapt it to the site and review it when the work or controls change. Consult the people doing the work. An AI draft or example needs review before use.

Model WHS guidance and Victorian requirements differ. Check the rules that apply to your workplace.
